Noelene, As a maker of Bedfordshire for some years, I would advise against linen thread to start with, and also if you're going to be making fine lace. I have struggled to get fine linen thread, but find that the flax is no longer grown that used to be used to make fine linen thread.
The modern thread has quite a few slubs (thicker patches in the thread) which can prove difficult when making tallies. Once you're used to making them, it does get easier. Unfortunately I love Bedfordshire lace and linen thread as well, and would love to find a stash of fine linen thread, to work some of the old patterns in the thread their original makers would probably have used. Till then I'll have to dream !! Edith Holmes North Nottinghamshire [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED]
