I'm way behind in digests, because of the PNWLC and luncheon, which BTW was terrific:) However, when Sulochona recommended putting bright wrappers on her "walkabout" thread book..mine does the same thing too, thought I'd have to order another a few weeks ago...an idea struck me, why not make a permanent pocket on the inside of the Practical Skills cover? That way both books would always be together...maybe :) You'd just need an appropriate size envelope and some glue or tape. Having read a few more messages, I thought I have to comment on the use of rayon thread. I love the colours and sheen of rayon, but there is a definate downside to them. I once had to make a doily type thing for a little challenge in the CLG. I wanted to brighten it up and so I bought some rayon. Naturally I didn't get the doily done until the last posting day :) When I got it off the pillow I thought, "well, it has to go in an envelope, it'll all scrunch down to one end and look awful when it arrives..maybe a little starch would keep it straight". I laid it out on a white napkin to keep it clean and then I sprayed it. Being in a hurry I also ironed it dry. Well, For one thing, the sheen was gone, apparently this happens with rayon and needs to be boiled to bring it back. Also the dye had run (I have a perfect orange doily outline on my napkin now. Plus, the rayon shrunk leaving my half spiders done in cotton looking limp. And to top it off, I discovered that ironing metallic thread, which I'd used as a gimp, also has a tendency to shrivel when ironed...a lot :( I did manage to work the piece back into some sort of shape, it was never as good because of the gimp and I couldn't quite get the rayon back to normal size. I sent it anyway...because Bev was threatening me (and then she copied it upsidedown so all the knots were showing LOL.) I guess my point is, don't wet rayon thread :) Sharon on overcaste Vancouver Island
