What is the tex or deniere size of Madeira tanne 80 thread? What system
exactly is it Madeira uses? I have tried asking them - getting everything

thread size.

I'm fairly certain that Madeira use the cotton count system.

Cotton count (CC), English Linen number (NeL) and Metric number (Nm) are indirect sizing systems which means that the higher the number the finer the thread.
Tex and denier are direct sizing systems so the higher the number the thicker the thread.

Tanne/cotona 80 = Nm135/2 = tex 15
Tanne/cotona 50 = Nm 85/2 = tex 24
Tanne/cotona 30 = Nm 50/2 = tex 40
That info came from the small print on a Madeira colour chart, it's not on the spool labels.

Denier is tex x 9 so cotona 80 is (15 x 9) = 135 denier.
Just coincidence that in this case denier and metric number are the same.

Cotona 50 is (24 x 9) = 216 denier
Cotona 30 is (40 x 9) = 360 denier
