As a UK author, I have no say about what price is charged for my books by my publisher either in the UK or overseas or where they're sold. All I know about what has been sold is my half-yearly royalties statement which shows how many books have been sold in the UK, the total exported (no indication of countries) with how many sold at their full price (two thirds of the recommended retail price), how many discounted as remainders from that print run or to book clubs with the percentage discount shown and how many free review copies. I can buy copies my books from the publisher at two thirds the recommended retail price and give them away or sell them at any price I choose (don't know if that's the same with all publishers), but as I'm no longer connected with the audience the books were aimed at, I'd be out of pocket doing that. So I don't. I gave 11 of my 12 free copies of each book to friends or acquaintances who would use them rather than sell them. Again I don't know if all publishers give the author that many copies.
