This book was written in 1964 when lace making all over was dead or dying. Sally Johanson was one of the Lace workers who did so much to ensure that it did not die completely. The original of this book was published well before any of the modern English lace books. (Pamela Nottingham 1976 for example). She was one of the founding members of OIDFA and became it's first president until her untimely death in 1984. Was the fly leaf statement a translation from the original Swedish edition of the book or one written specially for the English market? I would hazard a guess at the former. It would be entirely accurate in Sweden, at that time and the strange wording suggests a translation.
