Received a note from Barbara Bulgarelli on Tuesday that me lace entry did indeed arrive to her in timely fashion and will included in the contest. She also said that it was #12 to arrive. So if more were shipped on Monday and had not arrived yet, competition should be interesting. Makes me wish I had been more creative in my design concept now. <grin> But then the best ideas always arrive just after the due date.
On the other hand I was approached to do a lace window in an art exhibit so the ideas may not go to waste. A local middle school was dismantled in Irondiquoit (suburb North of the city) and they are building a new one to replace it. But the large windows (5 foot square) were saved and a number of them distributed to local artists to use in an exhibit in November and then auctioned off for charity. The exhibit is called "Windows on Irondiquoit". It requires an $850.00 sponsorship to enter, with $600.00 of that going to the artist. The local Rotary International group, of which I am a member, offered to sponsor me, probably because they knew that I would also donate the artist fee. I had to decline because of time limitations right now but it has still been popping up in my mind every so often. It is intriguing me. Maybe honiton with 1/4" rope? Or 1/8" venition blind cord depending on the grid size. But an opportunity to work in a different scale should be fun. Maybe I will have to get those half round windows out of their hiding place in the attic. The other news is that I have started the next 5-metre club attempt. I got my certificate from Bev Walker that I was #25 in the group, although an additional 20 lacemakers completed the project prior to them sending certificates. So I guess I am really #45. Not really certain if one can enter more then once but I really don't care. I just want to do this. I have the new roller pillow built to do it on and the first 9 inches designed. Because I want this to show the highlights of our stay in Europe for 2 years, I am doing it in a 6" x 6" grid. Okay, I'm cheating with a 3' blank panel to start and 6 x 6. The panel has a 4" x 6" picture with a 2" continuous border.
