My last shot of the night -- I promise... :)
Yesterday's post brought -- together with the IOLI Bulletin -- the
info/advert on the Ithaca "do" in October... DH wanted to know why, on
reading it, I started cursing, weeping, tearing my hair out, and
otherwise acting distracted. It's because the selection of workshops is
as spectacular as ever, but, this time, there are three *I*'d love to
go to (praise be, there were none last year <g>), and am unlikely to go
to *any*...
Good DH that he is, he asked "how much?" <g> He's already contrbuting a
wee-bit to my IOLI jaunt but, as usual, it's *not the workshop* that
hurts; it's the "peripherals" -- the transportation, the accomodations,
the food...
In case of Ithaca, there's also access (or lack of it <g>)... I went
there once... An hour+ drive to the airport, 3 plane transfers with
long layovers in between (and every layover as well as every plane ride
rife with germs I'm not immune to; I've *yet* to take a plane trip
without arriving sick as a dog), and a bit of good luck at the other
end; someone was waiting at the airport for another lacemaker, with a
van which would accomodate me as well -- I had no idea how far from
the airport the hotel was...
That was before 11.IX.01 and the consequences; then, I was still able
to argue/bully my pillow on as "hand luggage", through all the planes
(got harder and harder as I moved North, though; wonder why <g>). And,
being a few years younger than I am now, I had more energy, as well as
more appetite for adventure...
Is anyone from "Down South" (100 miles from where I'm at) contemplating
a *car* trip to Ithaca in October? If so, I'd love a ride; would be
willing to split the gas and cover the cost of a (cheap, mind you <g>)
motel on the road both ways if necessary... But I am *not* flying out
there ever again.
