Coincidentally, the very next message in my inbox after Jean's query was a note from Batsford/Chrysalis informing me of their merger, and offering a discount to "members", as well as limited-time free shipping to members in UK. I've copied part of this message below:
Evidently, I signed up for "membership" some time ago... it was free, and I thought "why not..." Haven't heard a word from them until now, but the discount plus free shipping (to UK) is nice.
