While thumbing through all my torchon books to get different slants on coronet fans, I noticed a picture of bobbin winders on page 23 in 'Torchon Lacemaking' by Elizabeth Wade with the caption "A reproduction bobbin winder kindly lent by Iona Thomas, and a modern nylon bobbin winder. The bobbins are in position for winding".
Has anyone noticed that the bobbin in the nylon winder is the wrong way round. If you put the bobbin in the nylon winder as shown with the neck inside the clamp, the thread will wind round the the outside of the clamp, not round the bobbin. So if anyone's followed this picture and had no success with using it, the shank of the bobbin should be inside the clamp, with the neck sticking out.
