Hi Ann-Marie,
Bloemwork means Flower work, sometimes and perhaps more properly called Bruges Bloemwork as it originates from Bruges. It is a part lace, so you do not need too many bobbins and the designs are usually for household linens so are usually made in heavyish threads, linen for preference. 35/2 and upwards. Most of the designs are based on flowers, leaves and scrolls, with some fillings to connect things. To further refine the description, you see patterns labelled, Gros bloemwork and Fijn bloemwork, Big and little. As you can imagine, the fine bloemwork used thinner threads and it was from this that Duchesse lace was developed.
