Hi Penny, Patty, and Jean (hmmm... sounds like a '60's tune
somehow...)

I have to say that this looks a great deal like a fan I once
got for $8: the "bone" is plastic, and the lace is made
with continuous braid which looks like it has a heavy "cord"
built-in along one side. You'll notice the weave isn't
tight as it should be in nice Honiton or Bruges... It's way
too gauzy - and this is apparently what made it possible to
pull threads in order to take up the slack in curves... and
then let it out again later if needed. The give-away is the
lumps of cut ends occasionally found when it isn't possible
to ease from one motif into another with the continuous
braid. I won't even call this Battenburg, although that may
be the right term... I haven't studied that lace.

uncharacteristic of either Honiton or Duchesse to me. I am
also exceedingly undecided about the relatively large gimp
around all the elements. Too big for a coarse thread in
Honiton and where is the raised work? Even Honiton "Slugs
and Snails" doesn't look like this. The fillings are
rudimentary although my impression is that they are bobbin
worked, not needle worked. The overall impression of the
whole piece is neither Honiton nor Duchesse.
