I'd have to agree; "I undersign with both hands", as we say in Poland :)
20 yrs ago, the three of us (DH, DS and myself) put my Mother on a plane back to Warsaw and spent an extra day in Washington DC. Darling DH let it be *my* day -- he dropped me off at G-Stret Fabric store (the original building) 5 minutes before 9, and took the 6yr old on a tour of various museums (the peculiar child was insatiable in pursuit of "old things" <g>). They came back to pick me up at 17 or 18 (whenever the store was closing), and I still hadn't explored the entirety of the store to my satisfaction, despite forgoing non-essentials like lunch break. I didn't *have* much money, so I didn't *spend* much -- one piece of silk for a tunic-shirt and a few buttons was all I'd bought -- but it was better than any museum for me. I'm a hands-on person rather than a scholar, and what I learnt there in that store was what was available, what I could look for wit some hope for satisfaction. While all a museum trip gives me is ulcers -- the past is so much more accomplished it's hardly worth an effort trying to match it :)
Different people have different needs; for me, a visit to a shop that encompasses many textiles is more intresting than a visit to a textile museum (though, time permitting, I'd like to visit *both*, for a more balanced view). I think providing "Kenn's inquirerer" with *all kinds* of info is the best we can do. Presumably, she's adult enough to pick the things of most interest to her...

And, speaking of forwarded yelps for help... I haven't seen any answers to Alessandra's problem (washing silk lace, which greyed during the course of working) on the list; I hope some have gone to her privately, since time is geting short for her too. I hope my forward (and all my other messages, including this one) show up on Arachne; I continue to not rceive my own messages back as part of the list, and haven't had the time to dig deeper into the reasons...
