I finally managed to win an auction on ebay! I'm now the proud owner of
Pamela Nottingham's Technique of Bucks Point Lace.

I've been searching the web for used copies ever since I took my second
Bucks class, but they were all in the UK - expensive shipping. Last week,
a copy was posted from Tennessee - across the country, but only $3
shipping instead of overseas rate. The bidding went up past my limit, but
DH (Dear Hubby, in this instance <g>), encouraged me to go ahead and bid a
bit higher - it is a very nice copy of the book - it doesn't look like
it's been used at all.

It will take a week or so to get here via media mail, but I've got the
library's copy renewed again, so I can keep drooling and planning until my
very own copy arrives. What to do first?

On the topic of prepricking - I always do, unless the pattern is handed
out at the last minute. I use a glue stick (harder, waxy-type glue; it
spreads a very thin layer) to glue the photocopy to card stock, usually
old file folders, then cover with blue matte film (I do spend the extra to
buy the good film from the lace suppliers - I don't make enough lace to
use it up very fast. I've also got the cheap stuff for quick, one time
projects.) I enjoy the task of pricking, actually; it's a nice, mindless
task to do when I only have a few minutes or am too tired to concentrate
on an actual project. I have a half-inch thick piece of cork board about
8" x 10" that I bought "way back when" from a supplier, and I put a sheet
of waxed paper between the pricking and the board to keep the needle
sliding smoothly.

I'm a frog-lacer/stitcher too. Mostly self-taught; I haven't had the
opportunity to take very many classes, but when I can, I pick the one that
sings the loudest and concentrate on that style until the next thing comes
along. Part of the reason my lace progress has been slow is that, like
many of you, I do multiple textile crafts. Knitting has been my latest
passion, with side trips to Brazilian embroidery and Hardanger this year.
Cross stitch, tatting, needlelace - they've all had their place and come
out of the closet for their turn in my bag. <vbg>

I turned the heel on a sock at a baseball game last night - our team won,
but the only runs scored were in the second inning (out of nine), so I was
very happy to have my knitting with me.

This is too long - back to the workday drudgery for me!

LeAnn in Oregon, where it's currently raining, but expected to be warm
this afternoon.
