I know I've said this before, but let me point out again, that Miss Channer's mat (or any other lace pattern which uses lots and lots of bobbins) is the *best* excuse a wife can have for buying new bobbins. By the time I had a hundred bobbins, my DH was commenting: "but you must have enough bobbins by now!" And I felt guilty every time I sneaked another one into the house! But...with Miss Channer's mat prominently displayed on the "to do" pile, he's quite happy to encourage me to buy bobbins till the cows come home - after all, even an accountant knows you needs lots of bobbins to work it!!!!
