Hi Everyone I've just re-subscribed after a lovely holiday in Normandy. I took my lace and encountered a problem while I was away. After forgetting to take my pattern notes (I made it up) as well as my pricker and thimble its (I suffered !) when I did try to take some pins out from the work they seemed extremely sticky.
I have two thoughts - First I put a new needle in the pricker before pricking out my current pattern. I suppose the needle could be too small for the pins I'm using. Is there a guide anywhere that says what size needle relates to which size of pin? I'm using 26mm X 0.55mm brass pins and I think the needle was a size 10. Can anyone advise if this is OK? am I right in thinking that the pricked holses should be marginally smaller than the pins I'm using? Second I'm no longer using my wool filled pin cushion, but a small wooden pin tub. Are the pins missing the lanolin, and what can I do about it? Or has anyone else any ideas or a possible solution? By the way - are there any Bayeux lacemakers out there? I visited the Conservatoire de Dentelles while I was away. It was a visit there 5 years ago that inspired me to take up lace. Everyone was friendly and the senior tutor/lacemaker was really pleased to have given me the lace making virus! I've returned with a second "infection" and want to try Bayeux (when I can find the time! - I've got the book and they told me to start at the beginning & work through - that way it will be easy!)
