Dear lacefriends,
I will try to tell you about our country. In Deutscher Klppelverband we are
meanwhile about 4 500 members of about every age. We try in our organisation
to do something special for children, for example design for them, a class
only for them on our convention. There are several teachers who work special
with children. And there are few schools bobbin-lace-making is a part at
normal school. That sound all very good.
On the other side I know that groups who belonged together since years now
stop and become private groups which are smaller. You should know that we
have in our country what we call Volkshochschule. This exist nearly
everywhere in our country. It is a school in the evening for adults with
reasonable fees. It started as Fortbildung in languages, typing and so on.
Today they do nearly everything. But the classes must have 12 pupils, better
more. And thats the point today, we often have only 8 or 10. And I have the
impression after some years people want to do something else.
So what I can see th number of lace-people didn't grew much more.
What belongs the sales people it is still stable.
When I started in 1986 I had big proplems to find a book forlearning or
materials. You should see with wich thread I made the things from the book
of K. Egger, which was the onliest, you would laugh as I do when I look it
up today.
On the other hand lace in fashion is absolutly in. Ok mostly machinemade
things.
So let's do what we like and other what they like. And why not make a
dissertation about all that. I knew a lady in Austrich who did this 3 or 4
years ago too, only for her country.
When I am back from my little trip I will tell you a bit about lace historie
in Germany.
Greetings
Ilske from Hamburg in Germany
