This isn't strictly lace, but will be of interest to anyone interested in costume. It's also very short notice, but I've only just heard about it.
Castle Howard, a stately home in Yorkshire, is pruning its collection of costumes, some of which have lace trimmings, there are also trimmings, shawls and other items. and they are being auctioned by Sothebys at Olympia in London next Tuesday, 7th October. They're on display today 9 am to 5 pm, Sunday 12 noon to 5 pm and Monday 9 am to 8 pm. So if you're going to ondon then, it should be worth a visit. The catalogue is also worth a look at, even as most (if not all) of us won't attend the auction, and can be browsed on: http://search.sothebys.com/search/collArea/BrowseCat.jsp?source_indicator=E& event_id=26373 an example from page 10 is Lot 185: PROPERTY OF THE MEMBER OF A GERMAN GRAND DUCAL FAMILY A GROUP OF LACE AND SILK SHAWLS, LATE 19TH CENTURY "two Honiton appliqu bonnet veils, a cream Spanish silk shawl, a group of collars including a Honiton bobbin example, assorted trimmings and two ivory Cantonese shawls" I heard about it on the radio this morning, and they reckon the lots will go from around 100 pounds upwards, but that seems to apply to lots of ribbons and trimmings.
