Some people ask about Aemilia Ars, about technique and about some pictures.
I think it is a good idea to suggest a well known book:
Anchor Manual of Needlework, Interweave Press, 1990 (from the first edition
:1958), pagg.272-281.
You can understand the technique and see some important pictures.
There is a beautiful, official, book on Aemilia ars, 1929 (Merletti e ricami
della Aemilia Ars). Elisa Ricci wrote the introduction. The book was reprinted
in 1981 and also in 1999. In USA you can find it (the old ) in some good
library (for example: Paul Getty Library or Museum of fine artlibrary,
Boston). The introduction is in Italian but I read somewhere that there is an
English and French Introduction (insertedâ ?). I am looking for these
introductions but until now I could not find them.
You can also find some pictures about Aemilia Ars in this article:

ELISA RICCI, The Revival of needlework in Italy, ÂStudio International Â,
London 1914, vol.61 (april), p.197

York 1914, vol.52 (may), p. 197

Tess told me that this article will be soon on the Web.
We can find many needle laces but Aemilia Ars lace is particular. Why? For the
stitches (very few) and for the patterns: old and new. The old patterns are
from 1500, the new patterns were designed by artists in the first years of
1900. The style is very close to liberty. Lace techniques were: reticello and
punto in aria.
In the beginning (and I am copying from a 1928 book : Bolognaâs applied
arts and crafts) Aemilia Ars Society produced simple furniture, carved and
inlaid furniture, wrought iron, tooled leathers, ceramics, glass,
bookbinding, and jewels, either from ancient or modern designs. But then it was
forced to limit the sphere of its activities. The industry of lace and ancient
point embroidery only survived.

In this my firstâ lesson is everything clear ?
