Precisely! When I demonstrated some lace in my job interview, I explained that there was exactly two different things you could do with two threads.
1. Put the left thread over the right thread
2. Put the right thread over the left thread
Some wiseguy piped up and said, no, there's one more thing you can do with two threads: nothing!
I stared him down with a withering glance and we went on as if "nothing" had happened.
When there are only two valid operations (Twist and Cross) the function is binary.
