Hi all,

I still don't think you can use Guild membership numbers as an accurate
guide to how popular lace is in a country. There are a lot of valid
reasons why a lacemaker might chose not to join an official group. It
could be a guide, but there are a lot of factors (that we've discussed
before) as to why someone might not join a National Guild.

It seems like the ALG numbers were over the 1000 mark a few years ago,
and have dropped over the last few years if they're down to the 900 odd
mark. But I'll bet there are still a lot of lacemakers around who just
don't want to belong to their National Guild. They're still lacemakers.

Cheers,
Helen, Aussie living in Denver
