Hi Patty & Spiders I thoroughly enjoyed taking the Chrysanthemum Lace Class with Cathleen Belleville at the Lace Conference in Victoria this past June! <ONE> of the best things I learned was her method for making lovely picots. It is so easy and produces perfect little round picots! I will quote from her book:
"Work the braid until you reach the picot pin hole. Twist the pair closest to the pin hole seven times (for 80/2) or five times (for 40/2). Insert the pin under the twisted pair and rotate it over the twisted pair and into the pin hole. Separate the two bobbins of the twisted pair, holding them widely apart from each other and apply tension so as to force all of the twists around the pin. Start the next segment of your braid with a cloth stitch, tensioning it tightly against the picot." Cathleen demonstrated how the twists help to keep the "kink" in the picot by taking a hank of her hair, twisting it until it naturally went into a "picot". I hope this makes sense - certainly has made me happy about my picots! Jane in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, the hub of the Great Lakes where the snow is falling and we are in a winter wonderland!
