The book Jeri has must be an old one! Several years ago I was smitten by the series and collected them. There were 26 different titles, written by Alison Uttley and illustrated by Margaret Tempest. Additional stories were written by Uttley and illustrated by Katherine Wigglesworth. Of the original 26, the only one I don't have is "Little Grey Rabbit to the Rescue", which is a play.
As with any popular series, the books went through many printings. I especially enjoy my older books with their tipped-in color plates. The newer books are often abridged. The fact is that these books, while written for children, are a bit wordy to hold their attention for long. But they're delightful for the children is us!!
