a new book - "Shocking! The Art and Fashion of Elsa Schiaparelli", by
Dilys E. Blum, Curator of Costume and Textiles at the Philadelphia Museum of
Art.
Hi all -
sounds like a great book. I have always been a big Schiaparelli fan, ever since I saw her famous "lobster" evening gown.
I don't recall her using any lace, but I did want to tell a short story - a local man, Ivan Sayers, has a **huge** collection of clothing ranging from 1760 to the present day, and recently I went to one of his fashion shows given through a local art gallery, with the theme of "art in fashion". One of the garments shown was a black Schiaparelli wool jacket, decorated with urns in beads and sequins, from I believe the 1938 collection - and the Vancouver woman who owned it used to wear it for ... wait for it ... sledding and skiing!
And it is *still* in great condition!
