Almost finished (3 repeats to go) a length of lace for a wedding garter for a friend.
I wanted to make the garter of soft elastic in a casing, and attach the lace to the lower edge. Trouble was how to make the casing. I bought some ribbon, but it was too "klunky". Then I found some fabric in my stash - a snow white synthetic, something like a cross between taffeta and silk. I cut a strip a few cm wide by 1 metre long, and embroidered a row of pale blue daisies and scroll lines down the length, using one of the fancy stitches on my sewing machine. (I had to put another strip of the fabric underneath to stop it puckering, but I then trimmed this back.) I then sewed the strip into a tube wide enough to take the elastic, turned it inside out, and hey presto, I've got my elastic casing! I think you could do the same thing with plain fine lawn. Just had to share my feeling of self-satisfaction with you all!
