For Helen and other "sticky tape challenged" persons. I'm forever "putting things together" and having to match them and have figured a trick that works pretty well for me. Cut the bottom piece of the item with a 1/4" to 1/2" margin and put two pieces of tape on the back side face up and overhanging the edge. Lay this flat on a table with the pattern and sticky side up (does that make sense?). Cut the second piece right next to the edge you want to match. If it's a large piece, roll the far edge and hold it in your hand with the "to be matched edge" sticking out and free. There should only be a couple of inches sticking out so you have perfect control. Match your edges/dots/pattern (Stripes, checks, whatever) by holding the top piece up and touching the bottom piece only with the edge. When you have it matched, use your other hand to guide and match then hold the top piece then lower the holding hand so the top goes down onto the tape tabs on the bottom piece. Voila! You can put more tape on the back or whatever you want at this point. It does leave a small "flap" at the join on the top side, but that can be dealt with by paste or covered with the contac paper/blue film many of us use on our prickings. Much harder to describe than to do!
