Lace _isn't_ a thing of the past, dear Tamara. What has changed is the
economics of it. You can't put bread on the table, anymore, by making and selling
handmade lace. But (as I know, you of all people have experienced this) this has
freed lacemakers from their nose-to-the-pillow grindstone: we are at liberty
to design, to develop what artistic gifts we may have; we can fly around in
the heavens of color (just think: Sandi Woods wouldn't have had much of a chance
200 years ago; nor would Louise Colgan; just to name a few at random). We
aren't limited to making one or two designs throughout our whole lives.

Cheer up, dear lacemaker, and come up with some more new, beautiful tpd
designs!

Aurelia
