The village of Mauchline has its own website, with an article that will tell you all about mauchline ware:

I remember seeing a mauchline ware box on the Antiques Roadshow and the expert did exclaim how much was being paid by collectors for what were, originally, extremely cheap little souvenirs and knick-knacks.

antique woodenware auctions on ebay and anything labeled mauchline goes for
lots and lots of money. The term mauchline must be well defined, because
the sellers and buyers exchange so much money with so much confidence. I've
never seen a mauchline tatting shuttle up for auction and that one is in
very good shape so that's part of the reason for the price. I've seen
mauchline ware boxes of all sizes and shapes, spectacles cases, pots, napkin
rings, egg cups. I think they are old tourist souvenirs. I would love to
have a spectacles case for my lace tools but I can't imagine spending that
much money for a small case.
