Our little group has been the fortunate recipient of a most amazing collection of bobbins. The bobbins are English made, our benefactor couldn't remember the fellow's name :( and are in a continental style. The bobbins are all made from Ebony, rosewood, and a couple of other woods I can't identify. All of them have beautiful inlays of ivory (and it is the real thing), or gold (again, genuine), mother of pearl, and ornamental snippets from antique silver cutlery. The finish is so smooth they feel like glass. Some of them have different materials for the heads too, like ivory, one has a real pearl, etc. Whoever made them was an artist. Anyway, after fondling them for several hours and reality setting in, it occurred to me that these are quite valuable. I mean, I knew these were expensive bobbins in the first place, but now I'm worrying that they should be insured? How would we go about getting these little works of art appraised? Any suggestions would be appreciated as we have several dozen of them. Sharon on Vancouver Island
