Hi Jane and everyone I would say don't confuse the general public with what 'cross' and 'twist' mean to us.
"So I'm trying to think of a better definition. How about "crossing and twisting the threads together while the pins hold the *shape* of the pattern"?" A more accurate, though broad definition: Bobbin lace is an off-loom weaving technique; each thread is attached to a bobbin. Pins are employed to maintain the structure of the fabric. This is a sparse definition at best, without an illustration (how are the pins used?) - but it isn't misleading, unlike the dictionaries :( -- bye for now Bev in Sooke, BC (west coast of Canada) Cdn. floral bobbins http://www.victoria.tc.ca/~wt912 - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
