Hi there, I am now cataloguing antique clothing and textiles for the semi-annual Whitaker Vintage Auction in New Hope, PA. The Wadsworth Atheneum, Kent State University Museum, Ohio State, several historical societies and private collectors have consigned de-accessions to this incredible sale. Textiles, fabrics, laces and linens will be sold on Wednesday afternoon, March 24, 2004. Antique clothing and accessories will be sold Thursday morning & afternoon, March 25. Previews will be held March 23 and 24. Offered at Wednesday's textile session: large quantity of handmade and machine made lace (many trade lots), an impressive collection of antique bridal laces and trims, printed fabrics and damasks from the 18th through mid-20th century, an early 19th century chintz quilt, many embroidered, printed or lace shawls, paisleys including a handmade one, 18th C. silk brocade vestments, and many exquisite bed and table linens. Highlights of Thursday's clothing session: a rare 1924 beaded Chanel dress, a court train from President Benjamin Harrison's family, a large collection of lace dresses and bridal gowns (late 19th to mid-20th century), Asian, Middle Eastern and Eastern European costume, lace coats, jackets & blouses (including Irish crochet), silk and lace lingerie, an unusual group of 19th century twins and sisters dresses as well as other children's clothing including a boys 18th C. embroidered coat, a c. 1740 brocade work bag, the Maharaja of Jaipur's 1938 gold wedding coat, magnificent ball gowns, day-wear and accessories from nearly every decade of the 19th century through mid 20th C. (many in mint condition), fabulous beaded and sequined dresses and wraps 1920-1940, and quirky c. 1950s shoes, appliqued cashmere sweaters and handbags. Many of these garments are museum quality and mint condition.
