Thanks Patricia for mentioning the Romanian Point Lace book. The reason for
the abnormal quietness is that I have been doing other things. You may
remember that I had my big toe straightened just before Christmas, not just an
ordinary pin, but some fancy fretwork on the bone. This was very painful and
I was in plaster for six weeks, now free of it, driving and walking almost
correctly. I have spent the time doing my homework for City and Guilds
Creative Computing. This helped take my mind off things. Then I am to give a
talk to the Mercian Lace Association in mid March on how I wrote the book.
Kathleen was to do a double act with me, but unfortuneately has another
engagement..

This is the weekend that Miriam Gidron comes to stay with me for a few days
and she is to join me at the the Mercian Lace day, which is the 25th
anniversary, so we are celebrating with a nice lunch. Then in April, Pauline
and I go to Scarborough for the Lace Guild AGM, I am taking some of George
Butters Romanian Lace to sell for him.

The other thing I did while imprisoned in a plaster and my house, was to sort
out all my machine lace and mount it by sewing to thin card. I cut short
lengths off anything that was long enough, so I have 'doubles' of each piece
in case the mounted pieces deteriorate. I cannot possibly afford completely
archival mounts and folders as there are several hundred pages by now. So
sorted into Pusher and Leavers machine lace, the different machines and
different pattern types. Then the Barmen lace plaiting machine, The
Hand-embroidery machine and Schiffli machine, the last two made chemical lace,
also the Cornely chain stitch machine. Not content with that, I sorted out
all the ribbon trimmings. There are five large ring-folders by now. All this
took several weeks, in between the Computer homework. I listened to Lord of
the Rings on CDs my son had recorded for me, he has the tapes.

I managed to give a talk to the Worcester Spinners and Weavers with my foot in
plaster, also a day-workshop on Polish Flower Embroidery for our branch of the
Embroiderers' Guild. People and neighbours were all very helpful, but I can't
tell you what a relief it is to be free again!
