Sally Schoenberg asked about crescent tallies. I used them in a couple of my designs
in the past. If you go to http://www.lace.lacefairy.com/ and Google my name Janice
Blair, remembering to check the "Lacefairy site" you will get a list of some of my
stuff. Choose the Swan Mask and scroll down the page to the Santa christmas card. I
used crescent tallies for the moustache. They had picots to hold the shape. They are
not as curved as I was hoping for but I was satisfied with the result. I also did a
rolled talley for his nose and a leaf talley folded in half for the bobble on his hat.

Further down there is a leaf talley for the loo handle. If you look at my very first
competition entry, the fairy, you can see some of my earlier leaves. You can also see
some very bad examples of picots done opposite each other which opened in the humidity
of the display room. I think I now know how to do them correctly. ;-)

I also did a heart shape design all in tallies which included a crescent talley made
with 3 pair of bobbins. I think I found the instructions for that in Ulrike Lohr's
"400 tricks" book.
That one I definitely made on the pillow but I usually use the bobbins in hand method
for making leaf tallies.
