Arachne does give one a wonderful opportunity to make friends. Miriam came to
stay with me, her second visit. She has already told you about the snow, it
was sudden and thick and I could not get the car out as I live on the top of a
hill. Luckily the taxi made it in the evening, though it was thick fog.

Miriam showed me the lovely piece of Honiton lace that she had made in the
class. It was so refreshing to see a piece worked in colour, a yellow flower
(not too yellow) and a green leaf and another to follow. This is the 21st
century and I feel that we should explore new ideas, new interpretations of
traditional work. Not necessarily go right off the rails and make something
mad, although that could be an interesting challenge. Sulchonia introduced
colour into the piece of Romanian Point lace she copied from my book, from a
photo in black and white. The difference was fantastic.

Miriam came with me to the Mercian Lace 25th Anniversary. It was a lovely
meeting, everyone seemed happy and friendly. There was a special cake and one
of our founder members had the honour of cutting the cake, made by our present
chairman. My lace friend Pauline met Miriam and they had a good chat while I
set up my display of Romanian lace from the book. I showed slides of the
samples etc, including one where I had taken a photo of a card made by
Kathleen Waller, and only after it returned from processing, did I realise a
large fly was sitting in the middle. Of course I had to take it again!

I don't think Miriam and I stopped talking all weekend, we had so much to
catch up on and discussed embroidery as well as lace. She is a very
knoweldgable lady.
