Hi all and newbies To add to the heaps of excellent advice already posted - I would suggest you try a plait with a different thread than the one you're using - if you are using linen, try cotton, especially a thick, soft cotton like Pearl 8 or 12. Wind a bit onto 4 bobbins and practice the plait, then try again with the thread you want to use.
I am right now doing a sample of Tonder lace with a fine linen thread (#140) for the sake of experiment. It is a lot more 'wiry' than I'm used to for this sort of lace. I would have used cotton 80/2 which is about the same fineness as the linen, but is a lot softer - the 'stitches' lie against each other more readily. The cotton lace, however, is not as crisp as with linen (fascinating to try point ground in fine linen!). -- bye for now Bev in Sooke, BC (west coast of Canada) - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
