I'm going to put my newby 1 cent in (too new for 2 cents worth) regarding the square bobbin preference.
I had no idea which bobbins to buy, so I bought what I liked the looks of. Well, I've had time to try them all out, because most of the exercises I've done required more than 1 dz bobbins. Yep, I've been working with mixed bobbins! I can claim newby-itis on that one. <grin>
Well, I've decided I really like working with bobbins with bulbs at the end, because they're really easy to pick up. The exception was the bayeux bobbin, which I just can't get a good grip on. They're hanging on my bobbin tree.
I tried my ornate, square bobbins last, and as a newby, I really like them. I was able to concentrate more on getting the pattern right without chasing rolling bobbins.
But, I still like the bulbous best, and will continue to work flat so I can use them.
I've tried many of the suggestions from folks here regarding problems I was having doing Bruges brarids - pinning, edges, "levitating lace", tensioning, hitches, etc.
Thanks to Lorelie, Jean, Clay, Sue, Patty, Tamara (who's sense of humor keeps me grinning), and I know there were others whose names aren't listed, but thank you as well. Thanks Noelene for the poem for Newbies. It is perfect!
