Jeri In my research on East Midlands lacemakers/ing there are several mentions of workers being read to - at Loughton in Buckinghamshire elderly Mr Harris would read to the workers, one of the group being his wife Polly, usually from the bible sadly I guess books were a luxury they could ill afford.
