First, I'd like to thank Avital -- I seem to be in Arachne-7 now, and things are beginning to be a bit clearer, what with explanations from Avital and Robin (thanks, both), and being able to access the various bits of the group.
Now, for the main course :)
Today, I picked up from the printers the Two-Pair Inventions booklet... Phew... It's all done, finally :)
The booklet consists of 32 (standard US letter size, one-side printed) relevant pages (instructions, photos, prickings and diagrams) and 2 irrelevant ones (title page and introduction), plus covers. In addition to the original 8 ornaments/centres there are 2 new ones and 7 full Snowflakes (you can see them on my website). Also, as a bonus, there's a Wire Variation of one of the centres, by Paula Harten (you can see some of her work on the community webshots. Paula, how about putting up your wire ornament there too?)
After seeing how nice Carolina's book (Witch stitch) looks in its protective, see-through plastic covers, I splurged for those too ($.90 per booklet), but that was the only luxury I allowed; everything else is plain vanilla. It's plastic-coil bound, but coil was the same price as comb, and it looks nicer and seems sturdier (the better to mail you, m'dear). All in all, I'm quite pleased with how it came out.
I got 100 copies printed out, which gave me a decent price "break" per page, but was still within my means to shell out up front for the lot. Anyway. The total price per booklet (plastic, binding, cardstock covers, and the 34 pages) came to $5.87 per booklet; with the tax it's $6.13 (we have low tax in VA). I've added $2.52 in profit, to go to The Lace Museum in Sunnyvale, so the booklet will be selling for $8.65, which I think is a pretty good deal, even for a "homemade" effort. It is, for certain, a better price than the original (of 8 centres) was going for on E-Bay when I - rashly - promised that I'd re-issue and improve it... :)
I still need to set up the distrbution system for it -- PayPal for overseas, checks for US, a separate checking account to serve it all -- but that will have to wait till I come back. I hope to have everything in place around the 1st of August; I'll let you all know *then* what the shipping charges to various points are likely to be, also.
The reason I'm writing *now* is that I'll be taking a copy with me to Prague, for Miriam (who'd made a contribution - in excess of the booklet's value <g> - to The Lace Museum a couple of years ago, on the strenght of my promise to get it out). I could take more copies, if anyone is interested for certain-sure (I'm not lugging them through Poland and Czech Republic on speculation; they're not all that light). Please write me, *privately*, within the next week, if you want me to bring a copy for you. You'd pay me in Czech crowns, at whatever the official exchange rate is then.
