I am a new member who has been lurking for several weeks and enjoying the posts. In answer to the question about knitted lace books, many people recommend Knitting Lace by Susanna Lewis. It is a workshop style book that examines principles of construction using a lace sampler as illustration.

For projects, Marianne Kinzel's books, The First Book of Modern Lace Knitting and The Second Book of Modern Lace Knitting, both published by Dover and very reasonably priced, have classic patterns and are known to be error free.

There are some lace bookmarks at http://www.pagebypage.com/bookmarks.htm which would be good first projects, and some free lace scarf patterns at www.heartstringsfiberarts.com , and the knitted lace list at http://knittedlace.com/mailman/listinfo/knitted-lace for advice and information.
