I have just acquired some bobbins at what I think is a silly low price. I suggested the seller put them on ebay, but he said he'd be quite satisfied if I paid what he was asking. There are 56 Bucks thumpers, two oddities and 12 of what I think are Downton bobbins.
The ones I think are Downton are plain light wood apart from 4 which have rings cut round them. They're more chunky than the modern Honiton bobbins I have, 3 to 3 and a half inches long (only one's that long), have a single head, a thick neck, get slightly wider towards the bottom (about three eights of an inch at their widest) and the ends of some look a bit like they've been sharpened in a pencil sharpener. I only saw a photo of a selection of the bobbins before I bought and thought it was thumpers and Honitons, but now I'm not so sure. Is there a Downton expert out there I could send a scan to say if they're Honiton or Downton?
