Took Lynn from Wollongong and her Canadian friend out to a local shop called Past Times (where I get my "striped" sock wool). They are Australian agents for Ashford spinning gear and they have a lot of weaving yarns.
In a "specials" bin there was a big bundle of unusual thread. It is labelled "silk noil - singles" is a lovely oyster colour, and is about 15 wraps per cm - the surface is quite "slubby" but it would be fine for making thick Torchon. And it is quite strong - will break with tugged hard, but would be ok to tension while lacemaking, I think. Can anyone tell me what it is made of, or anything about it. I bought a great multiple hank of it for $4.50 and I think there's enough for maybe a scarf out of it, there's quite a lot. Noelene in Cooma Please, southern states in Oz, send us some of your rain!
