My deteriorating memory is, per force, "selective", but I *do* remember your stating - on Arachne - that the whole application form was far too intrusive and complicated to bother filling, and that you weren't going to do it <g> And I do remember some discussion on *that* subject; some members thought that a more detailed application form would guarantee a better quality of teacher (I also seem to remember being - unusually - reticent on the subject myself <g>). I *do not* remember your saying - at any time - that Liz was not "up to it", or that it was a case of "either/or"; my understanding was that you'd have been willing to pitch in, *if necessary*, if only the pesky forms weren't worse than your bank statement...

is to her, and I particularly resent the fact that some ill-informed and
malicious comment has caused this hurt and distress to us both, running the
risk of totally fracturing the good working relationship we have built up.
Ah, yes... This whole Convention has been *rife* with rumours and ill-feelings, though, mostly, in the pre-Convention stage. I'm sorry to see the scuttlebutt had gone on to spread its blight post-Convention also. Just as I was glad to see (from Arachne reports) that it had been, afterall, a success (if with glitches)... I'm sorry I couldn't afford to go and see for myself, having chosen OIDFA/Prague as my "summer lace fix".
The whole format was *very* novel, and *much* different from the "tried and true" paths of the past IOLI Conventions, so it may have been a shock to many (even sight-unseen, for those who'd boycotted it "on principle"). But it seems - on the basis of the reports from those who *did* go - that there were quite a few innovations *well* worth repeating in the future. And some of the "bombs" may be prevented in the future by the newly-changed by-laws... All in all, a *successfull* experiment...
I'm in the process of re-reading the whole "brother Cadfael" series of mysteries, and was struck (suddenly? anew? My memory is not what it used to be <g>) by a comment which, re-phrased amounts to: "it's a waste to burn a heretic whn he's young, before he's had a chance to change his point of view". The same principle applies to to the IOLI Convention, I think...
As for the mud slung on Ruth... We've had a mud-slinging "stab" (against Rosemary Shepherd and her "Fantasy Flowers") late this spring... It'd been *proved* to be no more than an excrescence on Arachne list... I hope *this* "misunderstanding" (to be charitable) is on the par with *that* one, and that it will get resolved soon. Just because one's dis-satisfied with the weather is no reason to get *personally* bitchy :)
