G'day Tracy,
Welcome to Arachne. And I highly recommend joining a group, even a small one if you want to get started again. I've been a member since 1996. Helen Bell wrote a letter to the Australian Lace Guild about Arachne, I subscribed & a few members of the New England Lace Group, through Arachne, invited me to meet them & join the group.
I'm also a homesick Aussie, who until 2 months ago was a resident in Massachusetts for the last 13.5 years and now I am living in Tartu, Estonia. All because I married, 23 years ago, a computer engineer who is an American by birth, but both his parents are Estonian by birth. And then in 1994, he & his brother inherited their grandparents' properties. Now we are living in "the prettiest house in Tartu" & it's a palace when you compare it to the local standard of housing.
We have been here 6 weeks now with our 2 sons (15 & 12 years old) & next week will be hectic & exciting. Our container was due to finally arrive today in Tallinn (the capital) & maybe we'll see it delivered on Wednesday. We are 2 hours south, & you never know, it might get here earlier. I just hope the truck can get around a few corners & it'll probably disrupt traffic as our cobblestone street is narrow & used as a short cut between 2 one-way streets.
Meanwhile I received an invitation this week to the opening on Wednesday, Sept.15th of an exhibition at the Estonian National Museum, of a display of "Bobbin Lace Jewellery" by Lia Looga. Lia attended the OIDFA Prague Congress where she displayed her jewellery & adornaments, and she also lives here in Tartu.
The next day is my 46th birthday & on Friday my MIL who is currently visiting us is throwing a birthday bash for me & herself. It was her 78th birthday on Monday Sept. 6th.
And today I made ANZAC cookies/biscuits using local honey instead of golden syrup. Yummy.
