Sounds like your e-mail is set up just like mine. Clicking "Send" when you are creating an e-mail only sends it to your "Outbox".
You need to click on the "Send/Receive" icon or go to "Tools" and click on "Send and Receive". It's kind of annoying and there is probably a way to get it to send automatically. I went to "Tools", "Options", "Send" and clicked on "Send messages immediately".
