When you change from a cloth-stitched motif to a half-stitched one (ie, your pattern says a, and you do b)... In a cloth stitched motif, your worker will poke out - beyond all the passives and the gimp - and make contact with the ground in a "straight" situation (ie where a passive isn't taken in or let out). In half stitch, the worker turns around and travels back no matter what. It's the *passive* nearest the gimp, which goes out and connects to the ground, after the worker has gone back to the opposite pin...
