The wedding veil was made in Honiton Lace by Shirley Egan for her daughter's
wedding. She had been working on it for along time. The funny story about this veil is
that the daughter ended up eloping. Can you imagine that!!!! But....there was other
wedding for the family which was in Colorado. The veil is beautiful with the very fine
Honiton mofits of flowers, birds, insects...and lettering...and well...it is just
beautiful. The Honiton motifs go all the way around the outside of the veil. The net
has been cut away along the motif outer shapes edgings. There are also more motifs
spread out on the inside of the veil. I do a bit of Honiton....and I know how long it
take me to do it too...my spider and web has been on my Honiton pillow so long that I
am embarressed to say so I won't.
Even though this year for me I didn't get the opportunity to take a lace class I
still enjoyed myself just the same. I saw some fantastic laces....met some fantastic
teachers, met some fantastic lacers...and just had a good time.
I took lots and lots of pictures for I just can't remember how old I am ( I am
trying to forget) let alone what I have seen with my very own eyes. The lace display
was awesome!!!! I was even looking at the lace the vendors were selling...such
beautiful lace...which I felt was just looking and no buying for me. Though it was for
sale..I just couldn't afford the prices...though I feel the pieces of lace is worth
every single penny. It is just I don't have enough pennies...LOL!!
Lenka Suchanek of

really stands out in my mind. Her wire lace was so very beautiful too. I did buy some
wire and am hoping to experiment on my own here at home with the wire. I also bought a
couple of her wire kits that I have been looking at on Lenka's website for years. So I
am all set...I just need to get some bobbins to use with the wire and then....I will
be making something I hope in wire. I have tatted in the past with wire...( my 3D wire
flower made with copper, silver { not real silver btw} and brass wire was in the IOLI
bullentin I think last year), But I have yet to make any bobbinlace in wire. But I am
inspired to try it..Truly!! Lenka was also a very nice and bubbly kind of person. I
really like that in a person.
Also the flowers made by teacher Cathy Belleville was something to awe about too.
Her lace was so colorful. In many beautiful colors....and 3D also.....I just drooled
over them.
I also got to meet Irma Osterman just before going in to the banquet on Saturday
evening. She had this vest on that she made in needlelace. It was so pretty. Flower,
butterflies and so on...my favorite things to make in tatting or in bobbinlace. I got
pictures of the front and them poor Irma...I had her turn around so I could get the
back of her vest also.
As far as the laces that were offered in the other workshops I didn't get a chance
to see though I know that some samples of the laces that were taught were on the lace
Guild lace display table.
It was also very nice to see Karey Solomon too. I was so....my brain in a whirlwind
that I did buy a tatting book from her...but I must had put it down to take pictures
of her tatting that I forgot to pick it back up. Funny....I didn't notice till
yesterday that I was missing the book. I happened to be looking at pictures that I
took and saw the pictures that I took at Karey's table when it occurred to me...you
know...I haven't seen that book I bought....But......When you are trying to take in as
much as possible into the limited space you have in your brain...it is easy to be
overwhelmed and forget things. She will be sending it my way. I did get ahold of her.
I also saw Tamara Devual's two pair bobbinlace book that she has done. The pieces
are really neat...and I can see myself doing some of the patterns in wire......
Anyhow...that is my report of Ithaca Lace Day event. It was sure alot of fun of
seeing the laces and seeing the people with like mind like me who love the same thing
as I do.
