Is this plaiting the similar sort of weaving to the friendship bracelets which were all the rage when my children were at school - and when I taught what was loosely called 'Textiles' at a private school many years ago, was what a lot of the children wanted to do. I regarded it as a sort of introduction to weaving and the patterns that can be achieved, so went along with it, and some quite reasonable patterns were produced.
