Hi everyone
It seems quiet on the list, so here goes with some randomness about lace.
I'm trying a thread, Sulky 12 wt., and it is 'ok' but not great - it is
about the same as pearl 12. The latter I can't find easily in stores near
me, the former I can, plus it comes in interesting solid shades. My
favourite 'new' thread is still Valdani, the hand-dyed variegated
selections especially (and the size meant for machine quilting - 40/3 I
think it is sized at). The Valdani is smooth and strong. The downside is,
I have to get that by mail order, too, and have to be sure of the
colour because there are heaps on a spool (which is good and bad - good
if you want lots of it, bad if it ends up kicking around the stash, not
being used - LOL!). The Sulky 12 wt. seems to have a
hint of 'halo' or fuzz - not as effective in the plaits I was making, as
the Valdani. I'm doing a thread comparison by working up 'pinchain'
plaits.
Pinchain plaits: CTTCTTCTT etc.
Tension by swinging one or the other pairs out to 90 degrees, at the C
position (and back again).
I have a makeshift 'lace stiffening device' - some styro, with a plastic
grocery bag pinned over it, used exclusively for stiffening lace ornaments
(at present, with pinchains plaits...). I leave the pins in the styro to
reuse for the next stiffening project. I was looking for it, then
remembered it had fallen into the waste paper basket, and the elves who do
my housework had efficiently dealt with the basket contents. What could I
do but chuckle to myself, and make another such styro device?!
yours without a whole lot of lace messages to read ;)

ps - I'd dream up another survey, but haven't any inspirations...
