What is the Green Horseshoe used for. I assume the plastic tubing is used for the same thing. ........ I was glueing a smaller piece into the larger tubing to hold it togather in a ring.
As stated by other people, these are intended to keep the thread leashes raised up enough that they don't catch on pinheads when making tape or piece laces.
The plastic tubing is not glued together. The fastener is just inserted. What has been mentioned was wood doweling. At the Cantu class I attended, they used a piece of pipe cleaner as the fastener. It's flexible and cheap.
I had taken my round work cloth with a hole in the center to use in the class. The teacher told me it would not work so I couldn't use it. (I think the hole was too small.) The first day I just had to contend with the pins. That night, I used the plastic lid from a food container to make a substitute. I cut out the center, and a small section on one side, to make sort of a horse shoe shape. I also trimmed down the outside lip. It raised up the threads about the same amount as the tubes. I could pin right through the plastic if I wanted to secure it to my pillow, or let it lie loosely.
I think it amused the others in the class, but it worked----and I'm still using it on other tape lace projects. It's a 5 inch lid and is just a touch big, so a 4 inch lid would probably be just right.
It's amazing what a person can dream up in a motel room with limited resources. <G>
