Well, y'all complained about the dearth of lace messages, and here come some exciting ones :) I got the following from Lenka Suchanek, asking me to forward, since she's still not been able to sort-out her "issues" with subscribing to Arachne (Avital, don't even bother trying to help; Lenka's about to leave for 4-8 weeks' stay in Europe. Sometime in mid-January, however... <g>)

This is a text-only message, but I also have another one (ca 300KB), which includes pictures of the projects mentioned; if anyone's interested in seeing those, please write to me privately, and I'l forward them. The first stop on Lenka's European tour is going to be the NEC fair in UK...

1/ Subject: New Wire Lace kits from the Silver Pin Studio
TIME SENSITIVE NEWS - NOVEMBER 15, 2004 DEADLINE

Dear lacemakers,

I am happy to introduce five new wire lace designs in the line of Piece Lace Jewellery and Transparent Sculpture.
Two of the most popular workshop projects - "Paisley Pendant" and "Flower Brooch" are now available as kits/patterns. Well-liked by students, these designs are easy and enjoyable to make. They come with full working diagrams and finishing instructions, yet they also invite and encourage experiment and innovation, especially in beading. Finished pieces offer the best from the wire lace world - transparency, colour and three-dimensionality.

The other two projects took very long from conception to delivery stage. The ideas have been around for a couple of years at least, waiting for the right time to appear in a spotlight. I have had a wonderful time giving them the final form, and I think they were worth the wait. Please meet the "Lace Fairy" and the "Ballerina". They both require attention, so previous wire lace experience will be useful. The designs offer both, the beauty and the challenge of fine wire lace blossomed to its full potential.

The last design was my summer pet project, and what a fascinating experience it has brought me. The "Dragonfly" happened by chance, inspired by an oddly shaped fish bone button, which I found in a button store in Montreal. After the first dragonfly - a big beast of a dragonfly with sharp bone body and the finest silver lace wings - many more emerged in many sizes and colours, and each seemed to bring something special, a connection to a story, place or time... They all have been wonderful and they made many people happy. I thought that there should be more of them, but I cannot make just dragonflies, so here is the kit for anybody to try. It is a very simple design, but very effective one. It doesn't take long to make the dragonfly, especially after some practice. And you can expect to get a lot of practice, because you will be asked, by friends and strangers too, to make one for them :)
