A letter for a quiet day on Arachne....

Dear Lacemakers,

The Nov.- Dec. 2004 magazine "embroidery" from The Embroiderers' Guild,
England, has arrived. (Why isn't embroidery important enough to be capitalized
on
the magazine cover? It does not even strike me as mildly 'amusing', and I've
been subscribing for years.)

There is a display ad from Bonhams Auctioneers (in business since 1793) on
page 56. They will auction the following at Sale #11088, at The Old House,
Station Road, Knowle.

Tuesday, Dec. 14 - Embroideries, Costume, Textiles, Lace & Fans (Lace,
whitework and linen, lace making bobbins and related items, fans, accessories,
Oriental costume and accessories, period costume, shawls, quilts, general
textiles,
needlework and samplers)

Wednesday, Dec. 15 - Sewing Boxes, Tools & Related Items (Tape measures,
pincushions, cotton barrels, shuttles, silk winders, knitting, needlework
clamps,
needlecases, scisssors, chatelaines, thimble cases, thimbles, bodkins tambour
hooks, etuis, workboxes, Tunbridge ware, spinning wheels, hat pins, button
hooks, buttons, purses and reference books.)

I had some difficulty navigating the web site - there were no pictures (maybe
next week?). However, if you get to the page where there is a little
magnifying glass next to each brief listing, and if you click on the magnifying
glass
- you will get an expanded description of each item. The laces are listed
first.

How did we miss this? I guess because we know the Springett's and got all
wrapped up in the other auction. That *might* mean there would be some good
buys at Bonhams!

If anyone goes to Knowle to this auction, please report back to Arachne on
the proceedings. Thanks in advance.
